More Than Meets the Eye

Pardon me if I ramble a bit, here...

If Star Wars was THE toy line of the 70's (at least for my circle of friends), then the Transformers filled our 80's with coolitude. Nothing could beat it. Not Lego. Not Star Wars. Not G.I.Joe. Nothing.
My first Robot in Disguise was under the Christmas tree the year of their premiere in the U.S., 1984. I won't bore you with all of the history of the toy line, but suffice to say I've become a huge fan of the robots. Toys came and went even into adulthood, but when I rediscovered Transformers through the early years of Beast Wars, I got hooked all over again. I've amassed a huge collection by this point and they litter my life with the same awesomeness I've felt with them since I first unwrapped my original Soundwave.

There's some fan discontent with the designs of the movie 'bots, but I have no qualms. Through Armada, Energon, RID, G2, and the Beast Wars, we've seen a lot of different takes on the Transformers mythos. I can handle seeing Optimus Prime with flames on the hood if I've lived through him as a fire engine, a gorilla, and a 4-inch alligator.

This is going to be a movie I thought I'd never see. The campy original animated movie was all I thought we'd get and I was fine with that. This is a big budget summer blockbuster-type experience coming. This trailer makes me glad I've held on to these toys all this time. It makes me glad I'll see more for years to come.

Best of all, no Jar Jar.

If I could scratch together enough dough, I'd have 'em all. As it is, my 1st edition Masterpiece Prime towering over my desk at work will have to do for now.

I think if you don't pretend the eighties are the coolest thing in existence, you'll have no problem adapting to the new style of the Transformers film.

I like how it looks, too. Though, the only humans I'd like to see in the film, are ones that are shooting at giant robots.
